Located in the Caribbean Sea, Roatán is surrounded by crystal clear waters that are calm and warm making this island one of the best venues for freediving in the world. Part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second largest reef system in the world, you can discover a great diversity of marine life and underwater walls that drop-off to hundreds of meters only a few swim strokes away from white sand beaches.
Roatan Freediving School & Training Center offers “Apnea Total” & “PADI” courses from beginner to Master level with optional accommodation and is the organizer of the annual “Caribbean Cup Freediving Competition”.
Since its inception in 2013, the Caribbean Cup has become one of the most important freediving competitions in the world. World- and National Champions from countries in the 5 continents, high-level safety teams and distinguished international judges participate in this exciting competition, held at one of the most appropriate venues on the planet. Free Immersion (FIM), Constant Weight with Fins (CWT), and Constant Weight Without Fins (CNF) are the three disciplines in which athletes try to reach greater depths while holding their breath.
After 4 successful editions of the Caribbean Cup, Roatan Freediving School & Training Center has been honored by AIDA International by entrusting us the organization of the AIDA World Chamionship 2017.
By the way.., HONDURAS MEANS DEPTH !
Legend has it that when Christopher Columbus finally reached Central America, specifically the Caribbean waters of Honduras, he expressed gratitude by saying: “Gracias a Dios por estas Honduras / Thank God for these deep waters.”
